History of the Mai Tai
It’s said that this gem was created in the sunny state of California back in the 1940s. When a Tahitian patron sampled the new concoction he shouted, “Maita’I roa ae!” Which literally means “very good”. The shortened version Maita’I then in turn became the name. The drink is customarily made with white rum, dark rum, orange curaçao, orgeat syrup, and lime juice. Served over ice and can be finished off with a pineapple spear, cherry, mint leaves and a lime rind.
